A trip to Malaysia…
What a Christmas! With an 8 year old and a 4 year old Christmas is never going to be a quiet, relaxing affair. But when Amanda casually suggested to her parents that they should take us all to Malaysia for Christmas any hope of a chilled, laid-back holiday season went out of the window. Right out of the window!
Don’t forget Santa…
Bad enough preparing for long haul flights, difficult enough sorting out accommodation and transport but we also had to keep Santa in the loop as to where the kids would be and when. Thank heavens for generous bagagge allowance on Qatar Airways, and outstanding misdirection techniques by Amanda. Don’t forget the presents under the tree waiting for them when they got back…
Sea, sand and tigers
Was it worth it? And some. My in-laws lived in KL for a few years and we visited for an extended period in 2008 BK (before kids) and loved it then. We loved it even more this time. Don’t get me wrong travelling without kids has many benefits but nothing comes close to sharing amazing experiences with the little ones. They loved the street food, the markets (so many opportunities to buy tat!), the pristine beaches and the pool. We loved the warmth, the amazing cuisine’s on offer, the people and being able to spend uninterrupted time with our family. Oh, and don’t forget the Tigers?
A week on the stunning island of Langkawi followed by a week in the hurly burly of Kuala Lumpur made for the perfect break. The only thing which could have improved it would have been 2 weeks in Langkawi and 2 weeks in KL!
Photo heaven
I took nearly 2,000 photographs, some I have included in this blog, and it reinforced my love of photography and despite a few moans from family members (“not that camera again”) has given us a permanent record of the impermanent moments that make up important family time.
I made a book for Mum and Dad and it was such a great thing to have that I have decided to offer a book as an optional extra to all the wonderful families who invite us into their homes and lives to capture those special moments.
